Yep. New Year. Promises. Resolutions. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
I'd like to resolve to have no disasters this year. Health for everyone. Happy families. Good friends. Good times. Good wine.
We rung in the new year alone this year. All the years we prayed for a few hours alone and this year the boys ditched us for being with their friends. Good for them; pathetic for us.
We went our for the Senior Special dinner around 5:30 to miss the rush of the big night. Ran into friends and stayed out till 10:30 or so... whoo hoo. Then got home in time to see Dick Clark make it through another year. How OLD is he now? If every day, week and month is this uneventful, 2010 will be a successful year.
We're in a place where we are waiting for college acceptances for Jake, looking at colleges for Dutch and wondering how we will pay for it all. Not any different from most parents, I'm sure. Hard to believe we are less than 2 years from having 2 kids in college.... unbelievable. This might be a bit more expensive than daycare at the First United Methodist Church... and we thought that was a lot. Glad to have 2 kids who like school enough to do a good job and hopefully someday pay us back with trips to Tahiti and shore homes overlooking the Atlantic.
The tree went up just a few weeks ago. Everything was undone and preparations for Christmas were jumping up and down on my to-do list waving pom poms. Now the needles are falling, the ornaments are dropping and I'm dreading the de-frocking of the holiday home extravaganza. The champagne glasses are put away but luckily there are still some wine bottles dressed for the holiday in my kitchen.
We have a lot to be grateful for this year. Good family. Good health and warm home. Here's to a great 2010.
